Dr. Mohammad Hajarian is a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellow and Assistant Professor at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, where he leads the EU-funded ROSNUB project. He is also the CEO and Founder of Gegli (Gohardasht), one of the pioneering social networks he launched in 2003. With over 50 publications, including articles and books, Dr. Hajarian has made significant contributions across disciplines such as Online Social Networks, Gamification, Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, Recommendation Systems, Personalization, User Engagement, Data Science, and User Acquisition. His research currently focuses on developing methods to fight misinformation and mitigate online hostility within social networks. He has taught over 35 courses and supervised numerous graduate and postgraduate theses. His innovative work has been widely adopted in the social media and software industry. He collaborates with fellow researchers through his social network platform to implement and validate cutting-edge methods in real-world environments. He has also participated in several industrial software projects and actively collaborates on various Horizon Europe and industry-driven projects. He frequently serves as a reviewer and editor for leading scientific journals and conferences. He also speaks and presents papers, workshops, and tutorials at major conferences and universities. In recognition of his contributions, Dr. Hajarian has received several prestigious awards and honors.

    ROSNUB (Project ID: 2018/00578/037) is a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) COFUND CONEX-Plus Project ( PI: Mohammad Hajarian). Reputation Metrics and Methods for Gamifying and Regulating Online Social Network Users’ Behaviors (ROSNUB) Project aim to address the problems online social media can cause in today’s human life. Nowadays, in online social networks, users are exposed to fake news, misinformation, online hostility, and misogyny talks generated by other users. In this situation, users might have less regulated emotions, accept extreme behaviors, and misperceive each other. These problems can start from social media and affect people’s mental and physical health in real life. Study results show that more than half of young social network users have experienced cyber aggression resulting in emotions such as depression, suicide, and embarrassment in their life. Incel movement is an excellent example of transforming hostility from online social networks to the real world. To tackle the mentioned problems, social media users’ behavior should be regulated. While legal solutions might help, they are not encouraging, and current social media ecosystems have been built on a foundation that encourages users to engage in such activities to gain more attention or, in other words, likes. Although a good number of studies have been conducted on these mentioned problems in social networks, all are about detecting such problems, and software engineering approaches for preventing them have not been investigated. This is very important because prevention is always a better solution than detection. As a result, this project investigates algorithms and frameworks to regulate social network users’ behavior joyfully in a personalized way and from the software engineering perspective to increase citizens’ mental and physical health and wellbeing.     A research-based Social Network. Gegli, formerly known as Gohardasht.com, is among the world's first social networks. It has been my lifelong project since 2003. It has around half a million members, and new users join daily. Includes communities, blogging services, groups, chat rooms, p2p chat, and many other features.
